Machine Vision Camera
Machine Vision: Industrial camera systems and image processing. High Tech Alliance specialises in developing and building production machines and complete production lines in which advanced Machine Vision systems are seamlessly integrated.
A Machine Vision camera is used, in combination with image recognition software, to automatically analyse images and understand exactly what is being shown. These systems are used to carry out various inspection and measurement functions, for accurately determining the position of products, and for reliably controlling a robot or other handling system.
Capabilities of a Machine Vision Camera System
A Machine Vision camera system offers wide-ranging possibilities within modern production environments. Some of the most important functions include:
Object recognition: Vision systems can be used to reliably recognise and classify objects based on their specific characteristics. This is extremely effective for quality control in the manufacturing industry.
Position determination: By using camera systems, objects can be accurately positioned and placed within an automated process, such as during product assembly.
Measuring and inspecting: The cameras can be used to carry out contactless, accurate measurements and to perform constant quality checks on products and components.
Communication with the robot: The vision system detects a product on a conveyor belt or infeed system and sends this information directly to the robot. This allows the robot to know exactly how and where to pick up the product. Flawless communication between the system and the robot is essential here. We program the robot correctly and ensure stable integration with the vision system and the other machine functions.
What does a Machine Vision Camera System deliver?
A Machine Vision camera system can be applied within virtually any industry and market segment. In production or assembly processes, integrating this system delivers directly measurable benefits:
Fewer rejects, resulting in directly higher output.
Significantly better and more transparent process control.
Early detection of defects and automatic sorting based on product deviations.
Creating better and safer working conditions on the shop floor.

Different Types of Machine Vision Camera Systems
Broadly speaking, we distinguish three main types of Machine Vision systems for a wide range of industrial applications:
3D camera: Makes it possible to capture the geometric information of an object in three dimensions using 3D laser profiling. This is particularly well suited to complex product surfaces.
Area scan camera: This type of camera is used in most standard vision solutions. An area scan camera is best suited to applications where the object remains still during capture, even if only for a fraction of a second.
Line scan camera: This camera builds up images one row of pixels at a time. This allows the system to continuously capture an unlimited number of images at very high resolution. This is the ideal solution for fast, continuous applications such as document scanning, print inspection and checking roll materials (such as paper, aluminium, steel or glass). It also lends itself to detailed inspections where product measurements need to be carried out to micron-level accuracy.
In addition to the examples above, many other smart cameras, vision sensors and advanced scanners, such as LiDAR scanners, are also available. These can be used either standalone or fully integrated into an intelligent, automated production environment.
