Project: Double box packaging line

Two independent product streams and ultra-fast automatic format changeovers for on-demand packaging without inventory costs.

Flexible packaging through parallel product streams

The industrial market increasingly demands flexible High Mix, Low Volume (HMLV) production lines. Because customers demand client-specific products, manufacturers are switching to on-demand manufacturing to eliminate costly inventories.

High Tech Alliance developed and built an innovative, multidisciplinary packaging line that perfectly meets this need for extreme flexibility.

About this project

The challenge

The challenge in this project was to design a machine capable of processing a high variety of product and box sizes back-to-back, without manual changeover times bringing the line to a halt. To achieve the desired high output, the system needed two fully independent product streams. Technologically and organisationally, this set the bar high: integrating mechanics, electronics and software required flawless coordination, especially within a market where delivery times for external components are under pressure.

The role of High Tech Alliance

Our strength started right from concept development. To minimise risks, we first built physical test setups that conclusively proved the unique handling principles and changeover mechanisms. We then carried out the mechanical, electrical and software engineering largely in parallel using software tools. This ensured short lines of communication, fast data exchange and streamlined assembly.

Despite the challenges in the global supply chain, the packaging line was completed exactly on time and within budget. After commissioning, our engineers remained on site for fine mechanical tuning and process calibration to guarantee a stable start-up phase.

Solution and result

Our solution is a unique double box packaging line that adjusts itself extremely quickly and fully automatically to the current product stream.

The result is an extremely satisfied client who benefits from maximum, flexible production output. The success of this collaboration was quickly sealed: shortly after the successful start-up phase, High Tech Alliance immediately received the order to build a second packaging line.
